MY CLASSES

I am offering group mat classes, private sessions and pre- and postnatal classes for all ages and levels in the Ealing area as well Hanwell, Acton, Chiswick and Hammersmith. My classes have derived from a diverse background in dance, pilates and yoga. My classes have derived from a diverse background in dance, pilates and yoga.

When teaching, I like to pass on my experience I have gathered as professional dancer. Coming from a dance background, I enjoy dynamic fluent moves in my own practice which I draw on for my teaching. Both my Pilates and Yoga training inform, affect and feed into each other. Yet I like to clearly differentiate between them unless I choose to mix them. I focus on finding a balance between strengthening core muscle groups, developing long lean muscles and stretching these to achieve relaxation in tight body areas and creating space in the joints. Movements are linked by the breath hence creating a fluent class, in which each exercise flows into the next. I place an emphasis on coordination, movement quality, balance, breath awareness as well as stress management and relaxation. I like people to understand their bodies better to improve their physical health as well as mental and spiritual wellbeing. I am very motivated and love people to enjoy the class and take it as a great stress reliever and confidence booster.

Group Classes

These classes are suitable for everyone wanting to improve their general health and fitness. If you enjoy exercising in a group, these sessions will be right for you. Katjas classes can accommodate all levels, if you have never done Pilates before or if you are an experienced practitioner.

Individual sessions are recommended to help with injuries or medical conditions. A tailored programme aids to specifically address your needs and assists with re-educating muscles and recovering safely from an injury. Private classes are also an effective way of progressing quickly and building confidence before joining a group class. If you are interested in deepen your practice, private tuition might be the right choice for you. Private Sessions will take place at your home and can be arranged to your convenience.

Pre and Postnatal Pilates Classes

During pregnancy, Pilates can help you to maintain healthy posture and to keep your muscles strong and well functioning. Good postural alignment can aid your baby to move into the optimal foetal position in the later stages of pregnancy. Releasing tension and relaxing the mind helps to keep calm and to reduce any fears or anxiety. During class you have time to strengthen the bond with your baby and prepare both of you for a positive birthing experience. After giving birth, Pilates can help to re-balance and re-align your body. It aids to get back your pre-pregnancy figure safely and effectively.

Mother & Baby class

This class can be a great way of returning to exercise after having done pregnancy Pilates and/or Yoga or starting afresh after having your baby. Bringing your baby with you, the class will incorporate exercises that will help your postnatal body recover, strengthen and tone, exercises and massage for your baby as well as purposeful appropriate lifting, carrying, playing, relaxing etc with your baby. The class is suitable for babies from 6 weeks up to crawling.

Here are some of my students comments:

Katja has taught me for 2 years and made me fall in love with Pilates to such an extent that I am training to be a teacher. Her teaching manner is fantastic – calming, clear, and addictive! My body has transformed since being under her guidance and all aspects of my life have improved.
Daisy Armstrong

Katja combines a deep understanding of Pilates teaching with a delightful personality. She varies the programme so that it never becomes boring, while concentrating on any weaknesses of balance and control. I warmly recommend her.

I took up Pilates with Katja a year or so after an operation for a new hip. Now, aged 70, entirely thanks to Katja's sensitive and targetted remedial training, my balance, strength and mobility are better than at any time over the past ten years.
Wendy Baron

Katja has such infectious enthusiasm and I love the way that no two lessons are ever the same. She has helped me tremendously both physically and emotionally. I had struggled with pains in my arms, back and neck for years and Katja’s teaching has made that a thing of the past and she has also helped me to understand that it is OK to do some things slowly and gently!

I started Pilates lessons with Katja 7 months ago because I have a back injury and wanted to work on my core stability. Katja is an excellent teacher - professional while being warm and supportive, and clearly very knowledgeable. I started with private sessions and they've been great for my strength and flexibility. The nice surprise is that I've also found them very relaxing even though I always feel I've worked hard - I put this down to Katja's wonderful soothing manner. I now also go to one of her group classes so I can enjoy two sessions a week.
Julia King, Feb 2009

I have found Katja’s classes extremely useful and enjoyable throughout my pregnancy and beyond. I especially enjoy the mother and baby class where Katja manages to create a relaxing and stress free environment. I have found her to be a creative and attentive tutor whose class is expertly tailored to suit all abilities.
Emma Sherborn

I first came to Katja’s Pilates class as an ageing runner looking to try to prolong sporting activities into future years. Katja has a real, deep understanding of movement, posture and flexibility which has been of immense value and benefit to me. Through her Pilates and yoga classes, Katja has taught me about correct alignment and the importance of core stability and strength which comes with regular practice. The most wonderful thing about Katja’s classes is her caring and enthusiastic style of teaching.

No matter whether beginner or someone more experienced, Katja is attentive to everyone’s ability and progress in a class which makes all the hard work so enjoyable for all! I very much look forward to Katja’s classes which now play a key role for an older sportsman! Couldn’t recommend them more!

I was first introduced to Katja through my physiotherapist in January 2008. I had 3 slipped discs; 2 small ones & one larger which were causing me continual pain and I had had a series of operations for another condition which had weakened me considerably I started off with one to one sessions and eventually progressed to Katja’s group classes. She is the most wonderful and natural teacher and understands exactly which level she needs to work on with you. I felt that there was very little I could attempt when we first started working together, but she always made me feel that I could and would get there in the end. I now can’t believe some of the things that I can try to do which would have terrified me previously.

I have been working with Katja regularly now for nearly three years and I cannot imagine not seeing her every week. She literally makes me walk a little taller. I will never be “cured”, but my back pain has receded considerably and through her guidance and support I have been able to find the confidence to move forward in my life. Her classes are quite simply my lifeline and make me a nicer person to be around!

I first joined Katja's group Pilates sessions about 3 years ago in search of relief from back pain and I absolutely love it! An accident in 2000 resulted in 2 broken vertebrae and problems with my hips and pelvis. I have done many different Pilates classes over the years since my accident and no teacher has remotely compared to Katja. Her affinity with the muscular skeletal form is born of natural talent as well as serious amounts of training.

Her attention to detail shows us that she really cares. She calls everyone by name and remembers all of our individual issues in acute detail. About 6 months ago I progressed into her pregnancy pilates classes. With an already complicated back, the help that Katja has given me has changed the shape of my pregnancy. I dread to think what a mess I would be in now without Katja's help.

Katja has been teaching me for almost 2 years now & in this time I have seen a huge difference in my core strength & posture. Katja is a wonderful teacher who tailors classes to my specific needs while still making classes interesting & fun. She is very well organized & prepared ensuring lots of variety in the routines. Katja is such a warm & lovely person you can't help but enjoy her classes
