Welcome!
I am inviting you to find out more about Yoga, Pilates and my classes in the Ealing area.
What is Yoga?
The word yoga means "to yoke, to join, to bring together, to unite" in Sanskrit, the language of ancient
India where yoga originated. It is thought to be the union occurring between the mind, body and spirit.
Yoga is a thoroughly practical system which comprises a wide range of exercises and techniques.
These are physical postures, breathing and meditative techniques, moral practices and deep relaxation.
Yoga's traditional purpose is to bring about a greater awareness for oneself and the world around.
Using its principles, this ancient system can help to improve the holistic well-being of an individual and
balance his or her physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of Being. It can help people in everyday
living and invites the practitioner to explore life's deeper purposes. Yoga is also moving into stillness in order
to experience your true self and to discover joy, wisdom and compassion for yourself and others.
The practice of Yoga asanas (physical postures) not only has a strong physical effect on the body, but
they also have a psychological impact and help develop inner awareness, focus, concentration and self discipline.
Whilst regular asana practice builds strength, flexibility, agility and endurance, it also aims at balancing
and coordinating the different body systems such as the organs, endocrine, circulatory and nervous systems, so they can function well.
